I tried to write a Texinfo to LaTeX converter. It could do most of
the things already. However, I don't remember any more the exact
status of the project.
Bu actually it is fairly easy. Maybe a good project for the time
between the years (ie 24.12.--31.12.), when I use to become
surprisingly productive. ;-)
The idea is to use makeinfo's XML output (not DocBook!) and convert
it to LaTeX using XSLT. Actually I converted it to tbook's XML,
because I was not prepared to re-invent the wheel for all the
XML-->LaTeX problems. (tbook already has a mature LaTeX export.)
However, a direct conversion is better to use, among other slight
advantages. After all, the tbook code can be copy-and-paste'ed
where necessary, and its Unicode-->LaTeX converter is universal
anyway.
If anybody is willing to help with the makeinfo-->(XSLT)-->LaTeX
conversion, tell me, then I set up a CVS (or Subversion, I've always
wanted to try it). I'm game.
Tschö,
Torsten.
